Hey all, my names Matty, I’m 33 from York.
My story started in Holmfirth, with a small family unit of one brother, my mum, dad and gran.
Like so often nowadays my mum and dad went separate ways, happier for it. I was 16 at the time and came to terms with it easily as I could see it was right.
In 2012 I moved to York for work, and felt immediately settled. Met a girl who after 3 years I had an amazing little boy with. Perfect.
I then had a challenging year.
A change of job, relationship breakdown and the passing of my dad.
That’s the word for me, challenge.
I’m fortunate that I wasn’t alone. I quickly spoke up to my friends and family around me, who I’m lucky to have. Had I not had that support, it would’ve been unbareable.
I know first hand, it’s important to know you’re not alone.
Talk. Use that support net. It doesn’t make you less of a man, it makes you stronger.
This experience drew me into Yorkey Dads and Menfulness who I’m proud to play a part in.
We’re all in this together.
You’re not alone.
